SeismicAI alerts on 5.6 magnitude earthquake in East Turkey
SeismicAI pilot system detected and issued an alert on a magnitude 5.6 earthquake in East Turkey, which took place on 24.3.23 at 03:16:57 GMT (06:16 local Turkey time).
The event originated just across the Turkish border, in Iran.
Although the earthquake was off the sensor network, SeismicAI’s system detected the event in a few seconds, and accurately estimated its location and magnitude.
The shaking was clearly felt in the areas of Khvoy, Tabriz and Maragheh in Turkey.
Thousands of earthquakes occur in Turkey annually. In 2022, the Turkish Disaster & Emergency Management Authority documented over 20 thousand earth tremors (Statista).
